FOR PENDANT SIZE SEE COIN DETAILS BELOW

Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denaruis, was minted by moneyer M. Herennius in 108 BC in Rome. It pictures the diademed head of Pietas. Pietas was the personification of duty, loyalty, devotion and piety. On the back (reverse) is Amphinomus running right, carrying his father on his shoulder (more on this below in April's Notes)

Our ancient coin pendants are a favorite of history fans, students, travel buffs and teachers… and anyone with a love of the past. Our Roman jewelry is designed to be worn by men or women will accommodate both large and small chain and leather necklaces.

April's Notes: This silver denarius is as fascinating as it it beautiful. Pietas, the embodiment of duty, loyalty and devotion is paired with a heroic image on the reverse.

Amphinomus - or perhaps his brother Anapias, is pictured carrying his elderly father on his shoulder. The brothers were legend for carrying their parents from the eription of Mount Etna on Sicily in 263 BC. According to tradition, the lava stream was said to have parted, flowing around the heroic brothers and doing them no harm.

A truly historic issue, with great detail on the Pietas portrait.
